Microchip Programming
Each UID microchip comes with an 8-digit, alphanumeric ID, which is unique and will never repeat. Each microchip also contains additional on-board memory (16 characters) that enables read/write programming capabilities. This feature allows researchers to program the microchip with useful “human readable” data, such as study or project number, genotype, date of birth, or any other data to be associated with the study animal.
UID scientists have worked in the research industry for many years, and are very familiar with the challenges researchers often encounter when programming transponders. With this experience, UID offers several convenient solutions to facilitate UID microchip programming:
Use the BSL-200L Base Station
In addition to providing microchip reading capabilities, the UBS-200L Base Station reader can also be used to program microchips one at a time. Each microchip can be pre-programmed while in the sterile cannula and before insertion in the animal. The base station also allows programming and reprogramming of microchips even after insertion in the animal. The Pi Provisioning Software is required for microchip programming.
Use the UPS-60 Provisioning Station
The UID Microchip Provisioning Station (UPS-60) is a multi-transponder programmer, which allows researchers to program up to 6 microchips at a time. Microchips can be programmed while in their insertion cannula without compromising sterility. It is ideal for labs and institutions that use large numbers of animals since it allows programming of microchips in succession. The Pi Provisioning Software is required for programming.
Order Pre-programmed Microchips
For greater convenience and lower upfront investment, you can purchase pre-programmed microchips directly from UID. Simply tell us your specific code or number sequence at the time of ordering. For a small additional charge ($1.75 per microchip), we will program the microchips for you prior to shipping your order.
